Adrenaline heroism: Lee Majors is THE SIX MILLION DOLLAR MAN. Image: UNIVERSAL. |
Celebrating his incredible 40th Anniversary this year, Lee Majors enduring portrayal of the superhero with the all-American human heart, Steve Austin, alias THE SIX MILLION DOLLAR MAN, returns to TV screens courtesy of an incredible celebratory DVD release from UNIVERSAL and FABULOUS FILMS: a supreme viewing experience collectible box set containing every episode made of the series-100 hours- from 1973 to 1978, remastered and of the best picture and sound quality possible. Relive all the classic action and adventure of the series, its often intriguing stories and memorable guest star baddies. And even better, we also get the three 1973 feature length movie episodes (and alternate versions) that launched the show to enthusiastic fans and wannabe young bionicers, including the classic pilot episode, based on the book by Martin Caidin, Cyborg (later titled The Moon and the Desert), and the two further Glen A. Larson produced movies: Wine, Women and War and Solid Gold Kidnapping. For extra series completism, and heightening the warm nostalgia factor, there's the most welcome inclusion of the classic crossover episodes, too, that saw Steve Austin meet THE BIONIC WOMAN, Jaime Sommers, played with equal charm by the lovely Lindsay Wagner, who inspired a generation of female fans with her three season running series from 1976-1978. Then, after all that, there's the further three highly successful eighties reunion movies, with the next generation of Bionic heroes (including Sandra Bullock no less!), amidst a truck load of behind the scenes extras, including seventeen featurettes, episode commentaries on key adventures, deservedly very lengthy on-screen talks with writer and Executive Producer Harve Bennett and writer/Producer Kenneth Johnson, and last, but certainly not least, brand new interviews with Lee Majors and Lindsay Wagner. Most classic TV box set packages have us all crying out for more, especially on the special features front. This release, however, is not one of those: it delivers the goods way beyond our expectations...
