"HAPPY GLOBAL JAMES BOND DAY!"

The man and the designation that will live, love and kill forever. James Bond on the big screen is fifty, and not a grey hair in sight!  Image: EON.
As a servant On Her Majesty's Secret Service, he's thankfully bid Never Say, Never Again to his world grabbing enemies, broke the bank of Casino Royale, bid From Russia with Love on more than one occasion to comely maidens, found and beaten his Quantum of Solace and had a brush of You Only Live Twice for a while. With a firm A View to a Kill on our sights for delivering rousing, audience pleasing entertainment, he's sometimes scared The Living Daylights out of us with his Licence to Kill, and had our martini's very defintiely shaken and stirred over the years. Now, beyond Crab Key and that first little business in Jamaica with Dr. No, James Bond celebrates his much deserved film icon status as the man who can Live and Let Die, involve himself in a little Octopussy from time to time and make a Moonraker glow, showing us the GoldenEye of top quality film-making, in an action franchise that's truly a Goldfinger. A place where Tomorrow Never Dies, The World is Not Enough, and where Diamonds are Forever rein immortal. As the heavens are about to make their Skyfall, today is the officially recognised Global James Bond Day for our not always a gentlemen super Spy Who Loved Me and you for fifty glorious years-a true era hopping icon For Your Eyes Only, with a reputation of which no Man with the Golden Gun can touch him, possessing genuine strikes-like-a- Thunderball box office appeal and certainly promising to Die Another Day...

Heroes behind the screen: Harry Saltzman and Albert R. Broccoli joined forces to get the rights to make James Bond films. And history was made... Image: EON/SONY.

Happy Birthday 007, and thank you Ian Fleming for starting it all that fateful day he set his fingers to the type writer keys to write "the ultimate spy novel" at his Goldeneye Jamaican retreat. To the six great actors- the one and only Sean Connery, George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan and Daniel Craig- for bringing life, danger, sex appeal and energy to the globe trotting, bed hopping, danger-making British secret service man. And a further big toast and applause to the pioneering EON film empire of Harry Saltzman and Cubby Broccoli, and the saga's modern day custodians, Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson, for bringing us all worldwide so much pleasure and entertainment, and raising the quality bar for all storytelling and adventuresome heroes, beautiful independent women and ultra-mad baddies that have since followed in his barn storming tuxedoed wake...
